Good morning, (M)other đ»
Nothing brings us home to ourselves quite like music. And in motherhood especially, care and attention to Self is essential. At the same time, motherhood can inform and blossom our sense of Self. Join me on a new weekly exploration in what Iâm calling â(m)otherhoodâ. In distilling a sense of Self through music, we expand to create a beautiful and unique life experience. So letâs begin.
Embodiment exercise: use music to tune out, tune in, and time travel.
Pick a song that reminds you of yourself at 18. Listen to it today. Write down at least three sensations, memories, visions it brings up for you.
What about these things are uniquely you?
Where do you feel those self-qualities dwelling inside your body?
How do you allow them to show up in your mothering? Or, othering?
Share what youâve unearthed with a friend or partner or family member. Ask them what they remember about you at 18.
Dwellings in (m)otherhood
Liv, up after a 30min nap. Crinkle-toy sloth between her hands. Sheâs almost 6 months old now. she brings the leaf of the toy to her mouth. Everything around her, crinkling, crunching. She tastes it to know it. on her belly, she looks around, coos. Then plants her face in her toys. Coos some more. I hear her voice like i hear my voice. It rings inside my body. Inside, it enters the ears - trickles down through the little canal, and then through to the bigger ones. I feel her coos in my bones. These children are my marrow â they remind me that I am. I AM. Their eyes. The first that reflect me to myself.
